Learn to Brew your own

Let us teach you how

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are you coming to my home?

A: Primarily to make things more comfortable for you. Secondly it makes it just that much more legal. By law you technically need to brew your beer at your home. Now no one is going to come busting down your door if you brew it at your friends house but we like to make sure that your beer doesn't count against the 100 gallons we're allowed to brew!

Q: Can't I just come to your place to learn?

A: We really would rather teach you at your home. If you would rather, you can contact us and we can help you locate a local homebrew shop that offers classes.

Q: What are the costs for this?

A: Our basic cost to come to your home and setup to teach you to brew is $100 plus the cost of a ingredient kit. There are other costs you might want to consider. You'll eventually want a fermenter and a boiling pot. You'll want to invite your friends and split the cost.

Q: What if I don't have a fermenter or a boiling pot?

A: We'll come with our own boiling pot. No need to worry about that until the next time you want to brew. We can provide fermenters if needed for a rental fee (to cover any possible breakage). We would prefer that you purchase a brewing kit from either us or your local home brew shop before we come over. These can range in price pretty dramaticly. This should include at a minimum a primary fermenter, either a secondary fermenter or bottling bucket along with a "Racking Cane", and a bottle capper.

Q How long does this take?

A: On a good night we can count on at least 3 hours from start to cleanup. This is just to brew the beer and get it into the fermenter. After this we will work with your schedule to "rack" the beer into a secondary fermenter in about a week and a half. The racking process takes less than an hour and generally much less than that. The biggest time sink in brewing is the clean up! A week after that we'll want to bottle.

Q: Bottling? I don't have any bottles!

A: Well there are two or three ways to get them. We can provide new bottles at our retail costs. You can solicit your friends for bottles (just make sure they are not twist-offs because those don't seal as well) or you can look on craigslist (or something similar) Whichever method you choose is fine with us. One thing you will need new is bottlecaps though. We can sell you these.

Q: How good is the beer I'll make?

A: You can make some very tasty beer with even your first batch. The more you make the better it gets. The joy of homebrewing is that you can make any type of beer you want. Experiment! Some of the best beer we've made have been experimental.

Q: Where are you at? I'm interested.

A: We currently are operating in the Portland Oregon/Vancouver Washington area. If you are within an hour of this location we can help you brew some beer. If you are outside this area please check back with us as we are working to expand our market.

Q: I'm already a HomeBrewer and I'd like to teach others, Can I join you?

A: Please contact us and we see if we can work something out.
